In 1976, Allen Coage stood on the Olympic podium in Montreal, becoming the first African-American to medal in judo. Bronze. Earned the hard way. For Coage, that wasn’t the peak, it was the entry point.
In 1977, he went to Japan. Trained at New Japan Pro-Wrestling under Antonio Inoki and Seiji Sakaguchi. The dojo was unforgiving. The work was real. Wrestling as Buffalo Allen, Coage fused Olympic judo with professional wrestling’s brutality, laying the foundation for everything that came after.
This shirt pays homage to that moment in Japan. The debut. The grind. The year an Olympic fighter began the transformation into a legend.
